Geography: The North Coast town is nestled between a subtropical beach and a lagoon and is situated a few kilometres north of Stanger.

History: At the Ultimatum Tree on the banks of the Tugela River, visitors can see the site where Shepstone read the ultimatum to the Zulu headman. This ultimatum resulted in the Anglo-Zulu War.

Arts and Culture: The area has a strong Zulu tradition, as well as a legacy of the colonial sugar plantation masters. Visitors with an interest in the Anglo-Zulu War can visit the battle sites at Fort Pearson and Fort Tenedos, strongholds built by the English during the war.

Science and Nature: The tranquil lagoon is one of the longest in KwaZulu-Natal and is an excellent spot for picnicking and water sports. The village's name was derived from izinkwazi' or fish eagle, which can often be seen perched along the banks of the lagoon. The area has vast sugar cane plantations and many sugar cane workers and employees of sugar companies live in and around the area.

Entertainment: Zinkwazi is a nature lover's wonderland of walks, fishing, spectacular bird life, indigenous forest and wonderful beaches.

Sport: Both the lagoon and ocean offer good bathing and various water sports can be enjoyed, while meals at the restaurant at the resort are very good.

Did You Know? James Liege Hulett, the founder of one of South Africa's largest tea and sugar producers, arrived in Durban in 1857 with <\#163>5 in his pocket. Tongaat-Hulett is today one of South Africa's principal industrial groups.
