History: Named after Carl Ferdinand Haenert who discovered gold in the area, Haenertsburg was established in 1887.
Science & Nature: This scenic area has something to offer every visitor, including abundant trout fishing, horse-riding, rare archaeological sites, disused mines, magnificent montane grassland, indigenous forests, waterfalls and the beautiful Ebenezer Dam with its leisurely raft rides. Hikers and mountain bikers are well catered for in the Wolkberg Wilderness. The Magoebaskloof Mountain Pass between Magoebaskloof and Tzaneen offers beautiful scenery and waterfalls and lakes can be found in the indigenous forests. Interesting to see is the arboretum in the Market Square which has over 400 worldwide species of trees laid out in 5 circles like the Olympic logo.
