Back to Southern Africa

The landlocked country comprises a number of regions including Victoria Falls and Hwange in the west, the Lowveld in the south, the Zambezi Valley in the north and the central plateau. It is a beautifully scenic country, and offers tourists varied attractions from the Great Zimbabwe Ruins to the modern city hustle and bustle of Harare. Generally temperate, the climate of Zimbabwe is well suited to tourists looking to enjoy the outdoors. Nature reserves and parks include Matobo National Park and the Hwange National Park, and tourists can enjoy good game-viewing here. Other activities for tourists include white-water rafting and bungee jumping on the Zambezi, fishing, hot-air ballooning and horseback safaris. Golf fans will be pleased to know that there are over 70 courses while those looking for a bit of glitzy nightlife will find it in the casinos and clubs of the cities. Tourists should keep in mind the political problems facing the country at the moment, which are having devastating effects on the economy and inflation, as well as taking malaria precautions. Also, remember that water should be purified before drinking and be aware of Bilharzia present in lakes and dams. All major credit cards can be used in hotels, restaurants and most shops, and cash in the form of US dollars and South African Rand will also be accepted.
