Geography: Bilene is situated 190km from Maputo in the Inhambane Province famous for its string of inland lakes, and is situated on a hill overlooking the waters of the Uembje Lagoon.
History: This peaceful town was known as San Martino in the days of Portuguese Mozambique.
Science & Nature: The lagoon is a huge stretch of water, 8 km wide and 27 km long and goes down to a depth of 50 metres. The shores however are shallow, and this means that it is great for safe swimming, while the rolling sand dunes and lush vegetation of Bilene make it a nature and outdoor lover's paradise destination.
