Meaning "source of blessing", because of a medicinal spring which surfaces nearby, Heilbron is a maize, wheat, sunflower, dairy and cattle farming centre on the R26. Of interest are the Riemland Museum depicting the area's heritage, housed in an old synagogue and several monuments: the one at Vegkop Battlefield, site of the clash between the Voortrekkers and the Matabele army of Mzilikazi in 1836, the concentration camp monument and one to British soldiers who died in the Anglo-Boer War.
