Mozambique, lying on the eastern coast of southern Africa is a country that is successfully rebuilding itself from a devastating past, and is once again becoming a popular tourist destination. Tourists should however be warned that the civil war has left many landmines unexploded and that walking in the bush, especially in the wilder northern part of the mainland, without a guide is not a great idea. The safest bet is diving or snorkelling, at Barra or the Bazaruto Archipelago, with its amazing reefs. Tourists should be reminded to take malaria tablets and wear sunscreen! The arts and culture of Mozambique is quite fascinating, especially the traditional music played by the Makonde in the north and the Chopi musicians, famous for the marimba orchestra, in the south. The currency is Metical, which equals 100 Centavos.
