East London is situated on the east coast of South Africa between Durban and Port Elizabeth at the mouth of the Buffalo River, and is known as the gateway to the Sunshine Coast and the Wild Coast. It is part of the Buffalo City Municipality, and lies about 620km south of Durban along the N2. From East London visitors are afforded easy access to a diversity of unique landscapes, pristine beaches and natural treasures, including five major biomes. The beaches of East London and surrounds are often regarded as among the finest in the world. East London is also the gateway to the Sunsine Coast, offering a sun-drenched coastline, unspoiled beaches and a warm, blue ocean. East London is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions and the beaches have the most consistent swell in the country.
