Situated in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the Midlands Meander extends over a distance of some 80km between Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River. The Meander was started in 1983 by local artists and crafters as a tourism initiative to market their products and allow visitors to view their creative processes. Although it had a very small beginning, the Midlands Meander now consists of over a hundred stops on four different routes. There are plenty of coffee shops, tea gardens, country pubs, restaurants, wine cellars and breweries along the way, each serving up some delicious meals.
