Geography
The Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve is situated on the western border of the Kruger National Park near the Paul Kruger Gate.
History
The game reserve was formed in 1950 and comprises numerous private game farms covering an area of 56,000ha of bushveld.
Art and Culture
The Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve is home to some of the continent's most elegant game lodges, notably Mala Mala, Singita, Ulusaba, Sabi Sabi and Londolozi, as well as private game sanctuaries.
Science and Nature
There are no game fences between the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve, this means residents will have an excellent chance of spotting at least one of the Big Five.
Bird lovers are in for a treat as there are about 300 species, and the variety of snakes, lizards and tortoises round off the true wilderness experience. There ia wonderful variety of grasses, shrubs and indigenous trees to be seen in the reserve.
Entertainment
The best time to see game is during the dry winter months, as the wildlife congregates around waterholes owing to the water restriction. Visibility is also good as the vegetation is less dense, while the summer months are good for birding.
The upmarket game lodges in the reserve all offer day and night game drives in open land rovers with rangers and trackers. Tourists should remember that this is malaria country, and must take anti-malarial drugs including precautions such as netting.
Sport
Nature and wilderness walks with experienced rangers are great to get out into the fresh air and soak up the African bush.
